BNAO delegation visited the XXII INCOSAI in Abu Dhabi


Delegation, led by Mr. Tzvetan Tzvetkov, President of the Bulgarian National Audit Office, visited the XXII INCOSAI, which was held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates from 6 to 11 December 2016.

The Congress is the supreme organ of INTOSAI and is composed of all its 194 Members. Once every three years it holds regular meetings, which are chaired by the hosting SAI.

Two main themes were discussed by the participants in the XXII Congress: how INTOSAI can contribute to the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, including good governance and strengthening the fight against corruption, and what can promote INTOSAI's credibility to become a more prominent international organization working for the benefit of the citizens.

The Congress endorsed a new INTOSAI Strategic Plan 2017-2022 and a reviewed INTOSAI Statutes.

The Congress also highlighted the importance of conducting independent external audit for the implementation of the UN sustainable development goals, to contribute to their achievement and thereby to support the improvement of citizens’ lives around the world.

INTOSAI committed to perform the following main initiatives:

- establishing the standard-setting process and framework for developing and endorsing the SAI’s standards;

- contributing to professionalization at global, regional and SAI levels through the implementation of INTOSAI standards; strengthening ethics and integrity, competences and professional skills, as well as the auditors’ values in the public sector, and

- using the adopted by the Congress SAI Performance Measurement Framework as a tool to identify opportunities for improving the SAI’s work.
